Dental Implants
Missing teeth can be replaced with bridges or partials which are affixed to dental implants. This procedure is much more useful than dentures or partials which are not affixed to an implant.
The Teeth or dentures that contain the new teeth are attached to titanium implants that are positioned into the upper or lower jawbone. These implants are artificial roots that are surgically placed into the jaw bone by a dentist, or Periodontist; a specialist of the gums and the jaw bones.
Dental implants last for years are very strong and will last for several years. Rarely they will have to be tightened or changed due to wear.
Why Tooth Implants?
* Replacing missing teeth devoid of attaching anything to adjacent teeth.. Resolve joint pain or bite problems caused by teeth shifting into lost tooth space. * Bring back a patient’s confident smile. * Restore chewing, speech, and digestion. * Restore or improve facial tissues. * Support a bridge or denture, making them more secure and comfortable.
What does getting dental implants include?
The process of getting implants requires a lot of visits over several months.
X-rays and impressions (molds) are taken of the jaw and teeth to determine bone, gum tissue, and spacing existing for an implant. While the area is numb, the implant will be surgically placed into the bone and allowed to heal and integrate itself onto the bone for up to six months. Based on the type of implant, a second surgery may be necessary in order to place the “post” that will hold the artificial tooth in place. With other implants the post and anchor are already attached and placed at the same time.
Artificial teeth are made and fitted to the post part of the anchor after several weeks of healing. This step may take from one to two months as several fittings are required. The artificial teeth are securely attached to the posts after several weeks of healing, providing excellent comfort and stability to the patient.
Finally, you will receive instructions for the care of your new implants and teeth. Regular visits to your dentist, good oral hygiene and good eating habits will assist you in the life of your new implant.
